-
We recommend a minimum of three nights to settle into the rhythm of the house, though most guests stay a week or longer. Slow days are the point.

[NEEDS INPUT. Guests and AI engines both look for this before booking.]
The villa and who it suits
-

-
Yes. The Sage House is a private four-bedroom villa near Galle that sleeps up to eight guests, with all four bedrooms en-suite, a 12-metre private pool and two acres of garden. The whole house is yours, exclusively.
-
Yes, it is built for exactly this. Four en-suite bedrooms, a pool, a games room, a library, plenty of space to spread out and quiet corners to hide in, all in a secure, gated setting. It suits a grown-up family holiday where teenagers, parents and grandparents all want something slightly different from the same trip.
-
Yes, quietly so. Every stay includes a resident house manager, housekeeping, a grounds team and night security, plus daily breakfast. The team is there to look after you, not to hover. Warm Sri Lankan hospitality, without losing your privacy.
-
Yes. There's fast Wi-Fi throughout and a dedicated office, so the house works as well for a working stay as a holiday.
-
By design, no. There's one dedicated TV room rather than a screen in every bedroom. The house is set up for slow mornings, books in window seats and evenings in the garden.
Location and getting around
-
It's on Heenitagala Road, in a quiet village near Galle on Sri Lanka's south coast, surrounded by paddy fields, about 20 minutes from UNESCO-listed Galle Fort and 10 to 15 minutes from some of the south coast's best beaches.
-
Bandaranaike (Colombo) airport is roughly a two-hour drive away. We can arrange a trusted driver to meet you at arrivals and bring you straight to the house, so your holiday starts the moment you land.
-
Yes. We arrange a trusted local driver for transfers and day trips so you can explore the south coast easily and come home whenever you like, no haggling for taxis.
-
The villa sits among paddy fields, 10 to 15 minutes from the south coast's best beaches and 20 minutes from Galle Fort. There's no sea view. Instead you get two completely private acres of tropical garden, total seclusion and birdsong, rather than a shared coastal strip. The beaches are there when you want them.
-
The Sage House is 10 to 15 minutes from a string of south-coast beaches, including Unawatuna, Dalawella, Koggala and the surf at Ahangama and Weligama. Galle Fort is about 20 minutes away. We'll help you pick the right beach for the day, whether that's swimming, surfing or a quiet stretch of sand.
-
Galle Fort (20 min), the south-coast beaches (10 to 15 min), the Handunugoda Tea Estate, the only tea estate on the coastal belt (25 min), turtle watching, Koggala Lake, and the surf at Ahangama and Weligama. We'll point you to the restaurants, cafés and experiences worth your time.
-
Plenty stays at home: the games room, the gym, library corners, a Sri Lankan cooking lesson at the kitchen bar, or simply a book by the window with a pot of tea. The house is made for slow days as much as sunny ones, which is exactly why it beats a hotel when the weather turns.
Planning your trip
-
December to April is the dry season on the south and west coasts, warm, sunny and with calm seas, and the peak season too. The south-west monsoon brings rain roughly May to September, though the garden is at its most lush then and the house is built for indoor-outdoor living year-round. Whale-watching season off Mirissa runs December to April.

Most visitors need a Tourist ETA, applied for online before you fly. As of 25 May 2026, the ETA is free for travellers from 40 countries (including the UK), valid 30 days with double entry. Each traveller needs their own ETA, including children. Those under 12 are exempt from any fee.
Always check the official eta.gov.lk for your nationality before booking. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
-
Yes, it's a popular choice for multi-generational groups: short drives between beaches, history and nature, warm hospitality, and a villa like The Sage House that gives everyone room to do their own thing and still come together for dinner.
For current safety and entry guidance, check your government's official travel advisory before you travel.
Food, drink and tailoring
-
A fresh Sri Lankan breakfast is included every day, served where you like, the terrace, by the pool, wherever. Every meal can be adapted to dietary requirements and personal tastes. Tell us before you arrive and we'll stock the house accordingly.
-
Absolutely, it's one of the joys of a private villa. Share your preferences and dietary needs before arrival and we'll pre-stock the house and plan menus around you, from family-style dinners to a particular gin for your sundowners.
-
Yes. Authentic Sri Lankan cooking is a highlight, but the kitchen caters happily to Western tastes and children's preferences too. Just let us know in advance.
Why The Sage House
-
Most beautiful villas near Galle are not actually comfortable: hard sofas, a single stunning view, and not much to do when you're not at the beach. The Sage House is the opposite. Big soft sofas you don't want to leave, cool sheets and proper bathrooms, two private acres of garden with monkeys and peacocks, a resident team who look after the details, and dozens of nooks to read, work or hide in. A five-star feeling, as your own private home.
